Because I am strongly convinced that we need to talk loud about women working in clubs, I am developing a photographic project called Women’s beat. The beat is the rhythm; it’s the power, the beauty and the freedom of the music. And also, the beat is the punch, a hit or a shot, against patriarchy and gender violence.
My aim is to create a visual awareness focusing on female DJs. Through the photos, I want to collect and show stories about women and the right to be safe in their work environment. Nightlife, entertainment, music, club culture, freedom and acceptance, are forever hot topics in Berlin. And I want to combine them with the – also – hot topic of gender (female and female identified). I believe it’s time to tackle those issues all together and seriously.
You are a female Dj, and I am the crowd dancing and sweating at your gigs.
